A career demands constant evolution. This is true whether you are evolving within your current position or trying to evolve into a new role. Most of you are navigating complexities, driving innovation, and shaping the future of your organization. And others are trying to get into a role where they can have that impact. Our coaching service is designed to guide you on this journey by teaching you how to take a data-driven approach to evolving your career.
Our monthly coaching program provides a personalized and transformative experience. We combine a data-driven approach with a holistic human centered approach. By the end of the program you will learn eight essential skills.
Assessment Creation: This skill will provide you with data which is the essential component of the data-driven approach that you will apply to your career. As we teach you how to create assessments you will find that these assessment do not have to be long or complex. In fact, they often work better if they are short, simple, and can be done within minutes.
Reflection: This skill will help you process all the data from the assessments. If you ever feel lost at work or if you ever feel like you have no direction, then you most likely do not have a process in place to reflect on data. The better your process is to reflect on data, the more clear and confident your decision making will be. This process also does not have to be a long or complex. Sometimes it is as simple as reflecting on the decisions other people in your position are making.
Goal Setting: SMART goals can be thought of as checkpoints on a map All the data you intake and all the decisions you make are designed so that you can hit those checkpoints. But what if the checkpoints are not clear? What if you do not know where the checkpoint is? What if it is not even possible to get to the checkpoints? What if the checkpoints are not even relevant to your destination? What if you do not know when you are supposed to arrive at the check points or destination? Goals work in the same manner. You want them to be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. This will give direction to your data-driven process.
Method Setting: Similar to SMART goals, SMART methods are another essential component of your data-driven process. If SMART goals are your check points and destination then SMART methods are your vehicles, subways, trains, and planes. Methods are the daily, weekly, and monthly tasks that will get you to your goals.
Self - Efficacy: Two of these eight skills are not typically covered by other coaching agencies. The first is self-efficacy. This skill will help you find barriers that are preventing you from achieving your goals. Have you ever watched a movie or tv show and seen therapists asking their clients "how do you feel today". One major reason they ask this question is to explore your belief system. Do you think you can do your daily, weekly, and monthly tasks? Do you think you can achieve your goals? If you say that you do not think you can, then they will help you identify the barriers that are preventing you from progress. It is essential to the data-driven process that you find these barriers. If you cannot identify what is preventing you from achieving your goals then you are fighting an invisible opponent.
Personal - Agency: The second skill not typically covered by other coaching agencies is personal-agency. The main concept of personal-agency that you will learn from your coach is your locus of control. When you identify barriers while exploring your self-efficacy, you will determine whether your have control over that barrier. You will develop a plan of action for every barrier that you identify and that you have control over.
Self - Control: Everyone knows this skill as self-control but a better name for it would be environmental control. Self-control is not a complete illusion but the majority of the work comes from shaping your environment. A study once found that the closer you live to the gym, the more likely you are to go to the gym. The message of the study was clear. The more accessible something is the more likely you are to do it. This concept is very important in terms of your career. The more active you are in shaping your environment the more successful you will be with your career.
Self - Observation: This skill takes us full circle. Where do we find information that will help us create our assessments? What form does this information present itself? As you tailor your data-driven approach to your career, you will want to be more mindful of how your collecting data. The more accurate your data is, the more accurate your decision making will be.
